When using polyurethane (PU) or nylon (PA) casters in heavy-duty furniture, key considerations include load-bearing capacity, wear resistance, floor protection, and user experience. Nylon casters are more suitable for purely heavy-duty, high-wear applications, while polyurethane-coated nylon casters offer a better balance between load-bearing capacity and floor protection.

In terms of performance, nylon casters offer a strong load-bearing capacity (100–500 kg per wheel, up to 1000 kg for reinforced models), high wear resistance (80–90 Shore D), and resistance to high and low temperatures, humidity, and corrosion, making them effortless to push. However, their hardness can easily scratch soft surfaces like wood floors and they are also noisy. Polyurethane-coated casters (with a nylon core) offer medium to high load-bearing capacity (up to 300–500 kg per wheel), a flexible surface that effectively protects the floor, and offer excellent quietness (30%–50% lower noise levels). They are also impact-resistant and offer smooth rolling. However, pure PU wheels have a weak load-bearing capacity (≤200kg) and are not heat-resistant (softening easily above 80°C).

Application:

For heavy-duty furniture with hard surfaces (such as concrete or tile): Nylon wheels are the preferred choice. They are particularly suitable for industrial furniture with a load capacity of 300kg or more, frequently moved, or in humid environments. Their advantages include extreme load-bearing capacity, exceptional wear resistance, and excellent environmental adaptability.

For medium-heavy-duty furniture with soft surfaces (such as wood or marble): Polyurethane-coated nylon wheels are the preferred choice. Suitable for furniture with a load capacity of 100–300kg, they ensure load-bearing capacity while effectively protecting the floor, reducing noise and vibration, and ensuring smoother movement.

The key to choosing wheels depends on the load capacity and floor type: Nylon wheels are suitable for extremely heavy hard surfaces; PU-coated wheels are suitable for medium-heavy soft surfaces. Nylon wheels are more durable for frequent movement and humid environments. If quietness and vibration reduction are important, polyurethane-coated wheels are the preferred solution.
