The material of a caster directly determines its user experience (quiet, smooth, and floor-protecting) and lifespan (wear resistance, rust resistance, and load-bearing capacity). Key materials are analyzed below:

 

1. Wheel Material (Contacting the Ground)

Rubber wheels: Excellent quietness (≤40 decibels), protect wood/tile floors, and offer excellent slip resistance. However, they offer average wear resistance and are susceptible to oil, sun exposure, and low temperatures (lifespan is reduced by 30-50%), with a lifespan of 1-2 years.

 

Polyurethane (PU)-coated wheels: The best overall choice. Nylon wheels: They offer a load capacity (>300 kg), extremely wear resistance (lifespan on rough surfaces is 20-30% longer than PU wheels), and are oil and corrosion resistant. However, they are noisy (≥50 decibels), easily scratch floors, and break easily in low temperatures, making them a poor home experience.

 

Metal wheels: They offer strong load-bearing capacity (>500kg) and are durable (over 5 years). However, they are noisy (>60 decibels), can damage floors, are heavy and difficult to push, require maintenance and rust prevention, and are rarely used in homes.

 

2. Bracket Material (Support and Rust Prevention)

Galvanized steel: Offers moderate strength and a lifespan of 3-5 years in dry environments. Rusts easily in humid environments (lifespan of 1-2 years).

 

Stainless steel brackets: The preferred choice for rust prevention. They are strong, resistant to moisture and oil, and have a lifespan of over 5 years.

 

Ordinary iron brackets: They are prone to rust and seizure, and have a short lifespan (1 year in dry environments, 3-6 months in humid environments). They are not recommended.

 

3. Bearing Material (Smooth and Quiet)

Ball bearings (steel or nylon): Smooth and quiet (nylon is even quieter). Steel balls have a lifespan of 3-5 years (requires lubrication); nylon balls have a lifespan of 2-3 years for loads ≤100kg.

 

Bushings (no bearings): High resistance, prone to sticking noise, rapid wear, and a lifespan of only 6-12 months.
