How to choose casters for heavy-duty furniture?

When selecting heavy-duty furniture casters, focus on four key factors: load capacity, durability, floor protection, and application scenario.

1. Accurately Calculate Load Capacity
Single wheel load capacity = (Total furniture weight + Dynamic load) ÷ Number of casters × Safety Factor (recommended 1.5-2.0). Pay attention to center of gravity offset and increase the number of casters if necessary.

2. Key Indicators

Wheel Material:

Extra-heavy (≥500kg): Choose reinforced nylon or cast iron wheels (for hard floors).

Medium-heavy (100-500kg): Choose polyurethane-coated nylon wheels (for soft floors).

For humid environments, choose nylon or ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE).

Frame Structure: Choose cold-rolled steel or stainless steel ≥3mm thick, fully welded for a stable structure.

Bearings: Choose needle roller bearings for heavy loads and double-row ball bearings for frequent movement, with double seals.

3. Surface Compatibility

Hard surfaces (cement, tile): Pure nylon or cast iron wheels are acceptable.

Soft/fine surfaces (wooden floors, marble): Polyurethane or rubber-coated wheels are essential.

Rough surfaces: Choose wheels with a large diameter (≥75mm).

4. Functional Details

Brakes: A dual-brake system is required, locking both the wheel and steering.

Wheel Diameter/Width: Recommended wheel diameter ≥75mm, wheel width ≥25mm (≥30mm for heavy loads).

Environmental Compatibility: Choose a stainless steel bracket and wheel for humid environments; oil-resistant materials for oily environments.

Summarizing the purchasing steps: Calculate the load capacity → Select the wheel surface based on the floor surface → Select the material based on the weight → Check the structural process → Additional features (brakes, environmental compatibility).

Avoid pitfalls: Avoid low-quality casters without load-bearing markings, thin brackets, or sealed bearings. Ensure the mounting holes are aligned correctly.
