The performance of PU casters is affected by humidity, but the extent of the impact depends on the material type, ambient humidity, and usage conditions.

 

Ordinary PU materials are susceptible to hydrolysis in high-humidity environments (such as prolonged humidity above 90% or exposure to water), causing the wheel tread to soften, crack, and become sticky, with reduced elasticity and wear resistance. Hydrolysis-resistant PU has been significantly improved through its improved formulation, making it more suitable for humid environments.

 

Increased humidity reduces the hardness and elasticity of the PU wheel tread, weakening its cushioning capacity and accelerating wear. Combined with low temperatures, condensation can cause the material to become brittle and crack. Furthermore, high humidity can exacerbate metal bracket corrosion and bearing lubrication failure, affecting rotational flexibility.

 

The actual impact depends on humidity levels, exposure duration, load size, and frequency. Short-term exposure to moderate humidity (50%-70%) has minimal impact, but long-term exposure to high humidity combined with heavy loads can significantly shorten the wheel's life.

 

We recommend using standard PU casters for general environments (such as offices and dry workshops). For high-humidity environments (food processing, cleaning areas, and outdoor humidities), choose hydrolysis-resistant PU casters with rust-resistant metal parts and sealed bearings. Avoid prolonged water accumulation, regularly inspect the wheel tread and bearings, and replace aging parts promptly.
