In humid environments, caster durability depends on the material's corrosion resistance, water absorption resistance, and structural stability. Targeted material selection is required for different components:
Bracket/Axle: Corrosion-resistant materials are preferred. 304 stainless steel is suitable for indoor humid environments (such as warehouses and kitchens); 316 stainless steel is salt spray and chemical resistant and suitable for coastal areas, swimming pools, or chlorinated environments; hot-dip galvanized steel is less expensive and resistant to moderate humidity, but the coating must be protected from damage. Avoid using ordinary carbon steel or electroplated galvanized steel.
Wheel body: It should resist water absorption and aging. Nylon (PA) is completely non-absorbent and withstands heavy loads; highly hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane (PU) is quiet and hydrolysis-resistant, suitable for cleanrooms; EPDM is weather-resistant and suitable for outdoor use in humidity and sunlight; NBR is oil- and water-resistant and suitable for humid industrial environments. Avoid using natural rubber or ordinary PVC.
Bearings: They must be sealed to prevent intrusion. Double-sealed stainless steel bearings (2RS type) offer the best corrosion resistance and are suitable for extreme environments. Double-sealed carbon steel bearings require regular lubrication with waterproof grease. Avoid using open or single-sealed bearings.
Recommended Combinations:
Normal high-humidity indoor environments: Hot-dip galvanized brackets + nylon wheels + double-sealed carbon steel bearings;
Food and pharmaceutical workshops: 304 stainless steel + hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane wheels + double-sealed stainless steel bearings;
Outdoor environments exposed to humidity and sunlight: 304 stainless steel + EPDM wheels + sealed bearings;
Coastal/corrosive environments: 316 stainless steel + nylon wheels + double-sealed stainless steel bearings.
Prioritize material selection based on humidity and corrosion levels, taking into account load and noise requirements, and consider whether the structure includes seals or drainage features. 316 stainless steel + nylon wheels + stainless steel bearings is the best combination, while 304 stainless steel + hydrolysis-resistant polyurethane wheels + sealed bearings is a cost-effective option.
