What characteristics should casters possess for use in high-humidity environments?

In high-humidity environments (such as humid workshops, food processing areas, medical washrooms, and outdoor rainy conditions), casters must address moisture erosion, structural aging, and performance degradation. Key characteristics should encompass three key dimensions: material weather resistance, structural stability, and functional reliability.

1. Material Weather Resistance: Hydrolysis and Rust Resistance
The wheel tread should be made of hydrolysis-resistant, low-hygroscopic materials, such as hydrolysis-resistant PU, EPDM rubber, or nylon, to prevent softening, swelling, or cracking due to moisture absorption. Structural components such as metal brackets and bearings must be rust-resistant and corrosion-resistant. 304/316 stainless steel or galvanized or chrome-plated finishes are preferred to resist corrosion from moisture and chemicals (such as detergents and salt spray).

2. Structural Stability: Sealed, Waterproof, and Easy to Clean
Bearings must be equipped with seals or dust caps to prevent moisture intrusion that could lead to lubrication failure or rust. The connection between the wheel body and bracket should be sealed to minimize moisture intrusion. The overall structure should be smooth, free of dead corners and gaps where water accumulates, making it easy to clean and preventing dirt from accumulating. It must also ensure sufficient load-bearing capacity and deformation resistance, and the wheel tread must provide good grip to prevent slipping on wet surfaces.

3. Functional Reliability: Smooth Rolling and Stable Braking
Bearings should be pre-filled with waterproof grease to ensure smooth rolling without binding. Braking system components should be rust-proofed (such as stainless steel brake pads) to ensure effective and slip-free braking in humid environments. Materials should be resistant to aging and temperature, suitable for environments such as high-temperature steam or low-temperature cold storage, extending their service life.

In summary: Casters for high-humidity environments should prioritize requirements such as hydrolysis resistance, corrosion resistance, good sealing, and reliable rolling and braking. Weather-resistant materials and protective structures should be selected based on the specific humidity, load, and corrosion conditions.
