There are certain differences between PU (polyurethane) and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) casters in terms of performance and application scenarios. The following are their respective characteristics and differences:
Features of PU casters
Strong wear resistance: PU has good wear resistance. Even in frequent use and high friction environments, it can maintain the shape and function of the wheel for a long time, reduce wear and damage, and is suitable for handling equipment casters in logistics warehousing, factory workshops and other places.
Silent shock absorption: The elasticity of the material itself enables it to effectively absorb vibration and reduce noise during rolling. In noise-sensitive environments such as hospitals, libraries, and office buildings, the use of PU casters can create a quiet atmosphere without disturbing the surrounding environment.
Good load-bearing capacity: Through reasonable formulation and structural design, PU casters can withstand a large weight and meet the movement needs of some heavy furniture and equipment, such as large medical carts, industrial machinery and equipment.
Chemical resistance: It has a certain tolerance to common chemicals such as oils and solvents. In some working environments with chemical contact, it can still maintain stable performance and is not easily corroded.
Features of TPE casters
Good anti-slip performance: TPE has excellent anti-slip properties. It can provide good grip even on wet and smooth surfaces, effectively prevent casters from slipping, and ensure safe use. Therefore, it is often used in supermarket shopping carts, bathroom furniture casters, etc.
Soft touch: The material is soft to the touch and causes less damage to the ground during movement. It is especially suitable for floor materials with fragile surfaces such as wooden floors and tiles, and can avoid scratches and wear on the ground.
Environmentally friendly and recyclable: TPE is an environmentally friendly material that can be recycled and meets the requirements of modern society for environmental protection. It is very attractive to some companies and home users who pay attention to environmental protection.
Good weather resistance: Under different temperature environments, TPE casters can maintain good elasticity and flexibility. Whether it is cold winter or hot summer, they can be used normally and adapt to various climatic conditions.
Differences between the two
Different emphasis on wear resistance: PU casters have more outstanding wear resistance under long-term friction and high load; the anti-slip properties of TPE casters can also help reduce local abnormal wear caused by slipping to a certain extent, but the overall wear resistance is slightly inferior to PU in high-frequency and high-intensity use scenarios.
Difference in anti-slip performance: TPE casters have significantly better anti-slip performance than PU casters due to their own surface characteristics. In scenarios with high requirements for anti-slip, TPE casters are more suitable; while PU casters mainly rely on their elasticity and structural design to achieve shock absorption and silence, and anti-slip is not their main advantage.
Cost difference: Generally speaking, PU casters have relatively low costs and are more competitive in price when mass-produced; TPE casters may cost slightly higher due to their environmental protection characteristics and advantages in certain special properties (such as anti-slip and weather resistance), resulting in relatively high product prices.
