To improve the wear resistance of natural rubber (NR) supermarket trolley casters, improvements are needed in three areas: material modification, structural optimization, and usage management. Specific methods are as follows:

 

1. Material Modification
By adjusting the vulcanization system, appropriately increasing the sulfur dosage (2.8–3.2 phr is recommended), and incorporating a composite accelerator (such as CZ and TMTD) to increase the crosslink density and boost the hardness to Shore A 75–80. Filling with highly wear-resistant materials such as carbon black (N330/N550, 40–60 phr) or silica (20–30 phr) can significantly enhance wear resistance. Alternatively, adding 3–5 phr of PTFE micropowder can reduce the coefficient of friction, or blending with 10%–20% nitrile rubber (NBR) to achieve a combination of high wear resistance and elasticity.

 

2. Structural Optimization
Improving the wheel tread texture, using a "honeycomb + annular groove" composite design, disperses pressure and reduces contact area. A 1–2mm polyurethane (PU) coating or spray-on wear-resistant coating is applied to the rim edge to enhance wear resistance in areas prone to wear. The wheel hub structure is optimized, employing reinforced nylon and metal inserts, with controlled clearances and added reinforcing ribs to prevent eccentric wear.

 

3. Usage Control
Limit the use of trolleys to smooth surfaces and avoid rough surfaces. Strictly control load capacity (≤150kg) and pushing speed (≤0.3m/s). Establish a regular maintenance schedule: clean the wheel tread weekly, inspect wear monthly, replace damaged casters promptly, and lubricate the axles.

In summary, these improvements can extend the lifespan of natural rubber casters from 2–3 months to 5–6 months, making them suitable for low- to medium-frequency applications (such as replenishment or cold chain operations). For higher wear resistance, a "NR+PU composite wheel tread" solution can be used to balance cost and performance.
