Extending the service life of rubber casters requires considering their material properties and usage scenarios, and should be approached through various approaches, including daily maintenance, usage specifications, and environmental management.
Specific methods are as follows:
1. Standardized use to avoid overloading and improper operation
Control load: Strictly follow the rated load of the caster and avoid long-term overloading (for example, a caster with a single wheel capacity of 250 kg should not be continuously loaded with objects weighing more than 300 kg). This prevents deformation and cracking of the rubber wheel surface, or damage to the bracket.
Avoid violent movement: Apply force at a constant speed when pushing equipment, and avoid sudden stops, sudden turns, or impacts. This prevents excessive friction between the rubber wheel and the ground, which can accelerate wear and loosen the connection between the wheel and bracket.
Adapt to the surface environment: Avoid frequent use on rough, gravelly surfaces or surfaces with a high concentration of sharp debris to prevent scratches and punctures on the wheel surface. If use is required on uneven surfaces, prioritize clearing any obstacles.
2. Regular Cleaning and Maintenance to Reduce Environmental Corrosion
Daily Cleaning: Wipe the wheel surface and bracket with a damp cloth weekly to remove dust and oil (especially in oil-prone environments like kitchens and workshops). This prevents long-term oil adhesion, which can cause rubber swelling and aging.
Special Stain Treatment: If exposed to acidic or alkaline liquids, immediately rinse with clean water and wipe dry to prevent chemical corrosion of the rubber and metal bracket.
Lubrication and Maintenance: Regularly (e.g., every three months) apply grease to the caster bearings, pivots, and other moving parts to reduce friction and wear, maintain smooth rotation, and prevent uneven force on the wheel surface due to sticking.
3. Optimize Storage and Environmental Management
Proper Storage: Store unused casters in a dry, ventilated indoor location, away from direct sunlight (to prevent UV rays from hardening and cracking the rubber) and extreme temperatures (away from heating systems and cold storage, and keep the temperature between -20°C and 80°C).
Environmental Protection: When used in humid environments, spray the metal bracket with anti-rust paint. Clean and dry the caster promptly after short-term outdoor use to prevent mold growth or bracket rust that could affect the overall structure.
4. Promptly inspect and replace vulnerable parts.
Regular inspection: Check the wheel tread monthly for cracks, wear, or bulges, and the bracket for looseness or rust. If minor wear is detected, remove burrs. If the wheel tread is severely worn (thickness reduced by more than 1/3) or the bracket is deformed, replace it promptly to avoid safety hazards.
Replacement accessories: If the rubber wheel tread is aged but the bracket is intact, replace the wheel tread with the same model to reduce maintenance costs. Choose genuine accessories to ensure proper size and performance.
These measures can effectively reduce wear, aging, and structural damage on rubber casters, extending their service life. They are particularly suitable for applications requiring high stability, such as medical, office, and light industrial applications.
