Extending the life of caster bearings requires comprehensive management. The key lies in reducing friction, isolating contaminants, avoiding overloads, and ensuring timely maintenance. Optimizing the causes of wear is crucial:

Selection and Adaptation:

Select by scenario: For heavy loads, choose roller/tapered roller bearings; for light loads and quiet operation, choose deep groove ball bearings with sealing caps; for humid/corrosive environments, choose stainless steel bearings (304/316).

Precision and Clearance: Use high-precision bearings (e.g., ISO grade 6 or higher). Ensure the proper clearance between the axle and bearing, and allow for a small expansion gap in low-temperature environments.

Proper Installation:

Avoid Damage: Use specialized tools to apply even force during installation. Avoid striking. Ensure the axle and bearing seat are concentric (≤0.1mm eccentricity).

Adequate Lubrication: Fill the bearing with a suitable grease (synthetic grease for low temperatures, lithium-based grease for high temperatures, or water-resistant grease for humid environments) before installation, filling 1/2-2/3 of the space. After installation, rotate the bearing for even lubrication.

Maintenance Optimization:

Appropriate Use: Avoid long-term overloading (<80% rated load) and sudden impacts; maintain a smooth surface and use large-diameter casters for rough surfaces.

Regular Cleaning and Lubrication: Clean bearing surfaces and gaps regularly (especially in dusty environments); lubricate according to load/environmental conditions (monthly for light loads, every two weeks for heavy loads/dust), and remove any old grease before lubrication.

Environmental Protection: Install double-sided sealing caps/dust covers in humid environments; select high-temperature-resistant bearings (such as ceramic) for high-temperature environments and increase lubrication frequency.

Monitoring and Replacement:

Abnormal Warning: Watch for unusual noises, jitter, abnormal heating (>20°C ambient), or increased vibration (>0.5mm) and inspect immediately.

Timely Replacement: If raceway dents, ball wear, or retainer fracture are detected, replace the entire bearing and inspect and repair any worn axles/bearing seats.

Summary: Through scientific selection, standardized installation, regular maintenance (cleaning and lubrication), environmental protection and abnormal monitoring, bearing wear can be significantly reduced, life can be extended by 2-3 times, and downtime and replacement costs can be reduced.
