Choosing a caster material suitable for a specific environment and needs requires a comprehensive assessment based on environmental conditions, usage requirements, and equipment characteristics to ensure material stability and suitability for the scenario.
First, focus on environmental conditions. For high-temperature environments (>60°C), nylon or metal is preferred. Ordinary nylon can withstand temperatures of 80-120°C, while modified nylon can reach temperatures of 150-200°C. Metal wheels should withstand temperatures exceeding 200°C to prevent PU or rubber from softening and aging at high temperatures. For low-temperature environments (<0°C), choose PU or cold-resistant rubber. Ordinary PU can withstand temperatures of -20°C, while specialized models can withstand temperatures of -40°C. These materials maintain elasticity and resist embrittlement, while avoiding ordinary nylon, which is prone to brittleness at low temperatures.
Surface type is a key consideration. For delicate surfaces (wooden floors, ceramic tiles), choose PU or soft rubber. PU offers excellent elasticity and wear resistance, resists scratching, and is suitable for hospitals and offices. For rough surfaces (concrete, steel plates), use nylon or metal. Nylon is impact-resistant and wear-resistant. Metal wheels are suitable for ultra-heavy equipment, but require tolerance for high noise levels. For wet and oily environments, nylon is preferred due to its water resistance, or stainless steel brackets with non-slip PU wheels can be selected.
Specific chemical environments require specific selection. For weakly acidic or alkaline environments or oily environments, use nylon or high-hardness PU. Nylon is resistant to dilute acids and alkalis, as well as motor oil, while PU should be kept away from strong solvents. For highly corrosive environments, choose modified nylon or 316 stainless steel, which can withstand high concentrations of acid and alkali and avoid swelling and cracking of ordinary PU and rubber.
Finally, choose the material that best meets the application requirements. For light loads (<100 kg), choose rubber or ordinary PU, emphasizing quietness and vibration reduction. For medium loads (100-500 kg), choose high-hardness PU or ordinary nylon, balancing load-bearing capacity and flexibility. For heavy loads (>500 kg), choose glass-fiber-reinforced nylon or metal wheels to ensure structural stability. For high-frequency mobility, choose wear-resistant nylon, while for low-frequency environments, choose silent rubber.
After eliminating restricted areas through environmental screening and then refining requirements based on load, frequency, and other factors, you can select the appropriate material.
